CHANDIGARH: The last two days of submission of forms are expected to witness an upsurge of students in Panjab University as many, while procrastinating when it comes to filling up their forms, finally get down to doing it at this time.
Some are of the view that almost every year, students wait for the last minute to submit their forms, which results in a huge crowd.
Many a student tend to take action only when it is an absolute necessity, said Rajkumar Meiraba, who hails from Manipur and has come to the university to meet his friends.
The rising mercury is also a factor, many feel. I stay in the campus hostel. Mine is a five-year integrated course for which I just had to submit a form for the masters which I am doing. Otherwise, many of my friends who are day scholars are reluctant to come out in the face of soaring temperatures and have decided to fill forms at the eleventh hour, Megha Devgan said.
Faculty members said students are waiting for declaration of their bachelors results. They will zero in on the subject they are best at and would go for the same in masters, said Shivananda, lecturer of disaster management and security in department of defence and national security.
Reader of department of education Nandita Singh said, Its a human tendency to wait for the last moment. Kunal Kansil, a second year student of University Business School, said, Students who graduate from vocational courses generally remain out of station for their summer internships and come back only by June end. Once they are back to apply for their masters courses, the university would witness a huge crowd.
Many students have other options open, so they wait for results of competitive exams or those of tests conducted by other institutes before applying for admission to the university, he added.
